Sometimes paddling a kayak safely off a waterfall is harder than the more direct route down. Here, Bob McDougall and I do the double jump off of Falls 2 at Agua Azul. Bob’s making like Superman while I’m doing a gainer (a reverse flip), although I remember the sloping edge of the falls made it a little difficult to bring the flip around. Just before this, I made the mistake of wearing my glasses as I ran this 30 footer, and they got stripped off my head. Now they’re probably encased deep in the travertine at the bottom of the river, or else being worn by a near-sighted perch.     Photo: Grant Amaral
