"Graduation, Motivational Speaking, and Slide shows"
Doug Ammons is available to give slide shows and also as an inspirational speaker for any group. He has spoken to every kind of audience, from grade school children, high school and college students, professionals, kayakers, mountaineers, business groups, general community members, and many others. His slide shows and talks offer a blend of inspirational and thoughtful speaking, humor, and unique observations. His unique blend of experience spans the top end of extreme sports, business, art, and academia: he has a Ph.D. in psychology and edits and owns two international science journals. For twenty years Pipestone Mountaineering has hosted public presentations and slide shows by many of the top professional climbers, but I have to say, it’s a rare occasion to have a spellbinding presentation like Doug Ammons gave us. Doug’s river descents, his insights about risk, thought provoking challenges, and his psychological navigation transcend sport. The audience was speechless after the presentation. You could hear a pin drop - each person in deep thought from the visuals and commentary. Frankly, we were all astonished at the personal mental achievement of Doug’s descents, as well as his inner motivations for a life spent in the outdoors.
After listening to Doug at one of his book signings, I asked him to be the guest speaker at World Class Kayak Academy’s graduation ceremony. His ability to connect with this audience of parents and young adults was outstanding! Everybody was enthusiastic about the messages, which were a great blend of thoughtful seriousness and humor. Doug’s kayaking career has been defined by pushing the limits of the possible, and he can talk passionately about the motivations and experiences. He is inspirational in ways that any kayaker or nonkayaker will find exciting. I’ve met very few people who care as much about kayaking and rivers as Doug. His enthusiasm alone would give a great show, but it is also combined with thoughtfulness about what makes kayaking unique, and the ultimate voyages common to all of us. It doesn’t matter what audience, he does an outstanding presentation that everybody will enjoy and leave thrilled. |
